Gudrun Barker, who currently serves as a director of housekeeping at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown, is known for her professionalism, dedication and sense of calm excellence she brings to every property she supports. Her leadership in housekeeping operations consistently raises the standard for quality, efficiency and team morale.
From Germany to the heart of hospitality
Originally from Germany, Gudrun’s hospitality journey began in an unexpected way: cleaning offices. That early experience taught her humility and pride in a job well done. When that contract ended, she joined a Marriott hotel in Oklahoma in 1993, marking the beginning of a remarkable 32-year career in hospitality.
Throughout her career, Gudrun has worn many hats, including PBX operator, hostess, front desk associate, night auditor and secretary for the engineering department, before stepping into leadership in 1999 as an executive housekeeper and eventually director of housekeeping for major brands.
A trusted THS leader
Since joining THS in 2020, Gudrun has completed more than 20 successful task force assignments, earning a reputation for dependability, consistency and unmatched attention to detail. Clients often share how Gudrun doesn’t just manage a team, she works right beside them, setting the tone for excellence through example.
Fluent in German, Spanish and English, Gudrun has a natural gift for communication and connection, bridging cultures and fostering teamwork wherever she goes.
Wisdom from a life of service
When asked how she sustains her energy and motivation after three decades in the industry, Gudrun says, “You have to love what you do.”
Her advice to anyone pursuing a hospitality career reflects that same passion: “Enjoy and believe in what you do. Respect others’ opinions, accept constructive criticism without taking it personally and always maintain balance between life and work.”
It’s that mindset that continues to make Gudrun a role model for THS consultants and a trusted partner to our clients.
Life beyond the hotel doors
When she’s not ensuring a property shines, Gudrun enjoys long walks, cooking, reading and relaxing with a good glass of red wine. She also loves cruising and exploring new destinations. One of her favorite experiences was a 10-month assignment in Hawaii, where she soaked up the island’s beauty and hospitality spirit.
Gudrun’s joy extends to her family. She has been a devoted wife for 22 years, a proud mother of four children and grandmother to 10 wonderful grandchildren. Her home is completed by her two beloved dogs, Roscoe and Sunny, who keep her days filled with energy and affection.
